Bigg Boss 20 contestant Mahhi Vij has taken viewers back to the early days of her career, revealing a rather interesting chapter from her Bollywood journey. While chatting with fellow contestant Kanika Mann, the actress opened up about her first big break, her stint in films and the projects that slipped away before television became her home ground.
And one revelation has definitely caught attention — Mahhi says she was selected for Mani Ratnam’s Yuva, including the role that eventually went to Kareena Kapoor Khan.
From Tu Tu Hai Wahi To Films
Before becoming a familiar face on television, Mahhi started her career with music videos. She recalled getting her first opportunity almost as soon as she arrived in Mumbai.
Her breakthrough came with the popular remix of Tu Tu Hai Wahi, where she appeared in the much-remembered pink outfit. The success of the video was followed by several other music-video appearances, giving Mahhi her first taste of popularity.
But she wasn’t planning to stop there.
Mahhi eventually ventured into South Indian cinema, where she worked on projects alongside names including Prabhu Deva and Mammootty. It was during this phase that a major Bollywood opportunity came knocking.
Mahhi Vij Says Mani Ratnam Selected Her For Yuva
According to Mahhi, filmmaker Mani Ratnam had selected her for his 2004 film Yuva. She also claimed that she was being considered for the part opposite Vivek Oberoi — the role ultimately played by Kareena Kapoor Khan.
However, things apparently changed behind the scenes.
Talking about why the opportunity didn’t materialise, Mahhi said that certain personal equations went sour, describing the situation as, “Equations thodi kharab ho gayi thi kisi ke saath.”
She eventually returned to Delhi, hoping that other film opportunities would work out. But according to her account, two or three more projects fell through at the last minute.
When Bollywood Didn’t Work, Television Did
With films repeatedly slipping away, Mahhi decided to give television a shot.
That decision turned out to be a major turning point in her career. She went on to become a recognisable face on Hindi television with shows including Laagi Tujhse Lagan and Balika Vadhu. Her performance as Nakusha in Laagi Tujhse Lagan especially helped establish her as a household name.
Mahhi also explored reality television, appearing on shows such as Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Khatron Ke Khiladi and Nach Baliye 5, which she won alongside Jay Bhanushali.
Mahhi’s Bigg Boss 20 Chapter
Now, years after establishing herself in television, Mahhi is once again in the spotlight as a contestant on Bigg Boss 20.
Her candid conversation about the opportunities she lost along the way offers a glimpse into a very different phase of her career — one where Bollywood seemed within reach, but television eventually became the platform that made her a familiar name.
From a pink outfit in Tu Tu Hai Wahi to Laagi Tujhse Lagan and now the Bigg Boss 20 house, Mahhi Vij’s career has certainly taken a few unexpected turns.
