Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has spoken about the emotional depth and thematic intensity of Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming film Main Vaapas Aaunga, describing it as an “act of rebellion” and drawing comparisons with some of his own most impactful works.
As per a report by the Indian Express, Bhatt reflected on how the film resonates with the kind of storytelling seen in classics like Arth (1982) and Zakhm (1998), both known for their intense emotional conflict, personal pain, and socially rooted narratives. He suggested that Main Vaapas Aaunga carries a similar raw emotional energy that challenges conventional storytelling.
Bhatt reportedly highlighted that films like Arth and Zakhm were not just personal stories but also reflected deeper societal and emotional struggles, and he sees a comparable intensity in the tone of Imtiaz Ali’s new film.
The filmmaker’s comments come at a time when Main Vaapas Aaunga, starring Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina, and Sharvari, is being discussed for its Partition-era backdrop and emotionally layered narrative. The film explores themes of love, memory, separation, and belonging, set against one of the most turbulent chapters in South Asian history.
Bhatt’s comparison has sparked interest among cinephiles, especially given his association with emotionally charged cinema over decades. His films such as Arth and Zakhm are widely regarded as defining works in Hindi cinema for their bold treatment of relationships and societal issues.
Main Vaapas Aaunga, directed by Imtiaz Ali, continues to generate buzz for its storytelling approach, with Bhatt’s remarks adding another layer of anticipation around its release.
