From Aashiqui and Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke to Hera Pheri, Gadar and Welcome, Mushtaq Khan quietly became one of Bollywood’s most recognisable supporting actors.
When we talk about Bollywood actors who could make a scene memorable without being the lead, Mushtaq Khan’s name deserves a special mention. With a career spanning nearly four decades, the veteran actor appeared in hundreds of films and built a reputation for making even supporting characters stand out.
Mushtaq Khan began his journey in the 1980s and went on to work with some of the biggest names in Hindi cinema. He appeared in films such as Aashiqui, Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, Sadak, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Raja and Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, among several others.
For many Bollywood fans, one of his memorable appearances came in Aashiqui, where his character added to the film’s world of colourful supporting personalities. He was also seen in Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, further establishing himself as a dependable character actor.
Then came films like Hera Pheri, where his comic timing added to the film’s already chaotic world. His association with comedy continued through movies such as Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Welcome and Welcome Back. In Welcome, his character became another memorable part of the film’s madcap universe.
But Mushtaq Khan was never limited to comedy. In Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, he played Gul Khan, while later returning to the role in Gadar 2. He also appeared in films such as Wanted, Rowdy Rathore, Oh My God! and Khiladi 786.
More recently, younger audiences also saw him in films such as Stree, Badhaai Do, Stree 2 and Gadar 2, proving that his face remained familiar even as Bollywood entered a new generation.
