“Salman Khan Became a Superstar With This Song, Varun Dhawan Can’t”: Abhijeet Bhattacharya’s Explosive Take on ‘Chunari Chunari’ Remake

The controversy surrounding the recreated version of Chunari Chunari has intensified after veteran singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya shared his candid views on the song’s remake in Varun Dhawan’s upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.

Speaking in an interview with Zoom, Abhijeet revealed that he was not informed about the recreation of the iconic track that originally featured Salman Khan and became one of the most memorable songs of the late 1990s.

However, it was his comparison between Salman Khan and Varun Dhawan that grabbed the most attention. The singer stated that the gap between the two stars is as vast as that between Amitabh Bachchan and Asrani, suggesting that Varun would struggle to match the impact Salman created with the original song.

Abhijeet further argued that songs like Chunari Chunari played a major role in shaping the stardom of actors and claimed that retaining his original vocals for the remake could have triggered a strong negative reaction from audiences. According to the singer, the makers made a “wise decision” by not using his voice in the new version.

Taking his remarks a step further, Abhijeet credited the original track for significantly contributing to Salman Khan’s rise as a superstar and expressed doubts that the recreated version could have a similar effect for Varun Dhawan.

His comments have now sparked fresh debate on social media, with fans divided over the growing trend of remaking Bollywood classics and whether iconic songs should be recreated for a new generation at all.
