Beyond the Glamour: Namrata Lodaya Shares the Emotional Story Behind Her Cannes Appearance.

While Cannes is often synonymous with glamour, fashion, and celebrity appearances, Indian performance artist Namrata Vishal Lodaya used the global stage to spark a deeper conversation about identity, self-worth, and emotional healing. Following her appearance at the Cannes Film Festival 2026, the Mumbai-based artist has opened up about the personal lessons she took away from the experience, emphasizing that authenticity matters far more than picture-perfect moments.

Representing India through Haute Monde MIWW, Namrata unveiled The Inner Red Carpet, a conceptual performance art installation designed to encourage introspection and self-awareness. At the heart of the project was a powerful question: “Have you truly walked on your Inner Red Carpet?”

Unlike traditional red-carpet appearances, Namrata’s presentation focused on emotional truth rather than external validation. Her striking ensemble featured one visible eye, while the other was replaced with a mirror, symbolizing self-reflection and encouraging viewers to look inward rather than seek approval from the outside world.

The concept was developed by Namrata in collaboration with fashion designer Rashi Shah and brought to life by designers Riddhi Nagda and Jiya Jamadar, with support from Nooralamji. The look was completed by hairstylist and makeup artist Shivani Arora.

However, the artist revealed that not all aspects of her Cannes journey unfolded as expected. Several key moments from her appearance were not captured the way she had envisioned, leading to AI-generated interpretations inspired by her performance gaining traction online.

Reflecting on the experience, Namrata shared that her purpose at Cannes extended beyond glamour and recognition.

“I did not go to Cannes looking for validation or perfect moments. I went carrying a question that has lived inside me for years. Everything I created, wore, and stood for came from a deeply authentic space,” she said.

She admitted feeling disappointed that some of the most meaningful moments were not documented as she had hoped, but ultimately viewed it as a valuable lesson.

“Sometimes life asks you to stop proving the moment to the world and simply live it fully for yourself,” she added.

Addressing the viral AI-generated visuals, Namrata clarified that while the images were artistic interpretations, the emotions and intention behind her performance were entirely genuine.

“The visuals may be AI-generated, but the experience, purpose, and emotions behind them are absolutely real. Authenticity will always outlive perfection,” she stated.

Known for her distinctive use of eraser dust as an artistic medium, Namrata also incorporated the material into her Cannes ensemble as a symbol of transformation, healing, and letting go of emotional burdens.

The performance concluded with a poignant symbolic gesture as she cut away a portion of her outfit after the premiere, representing the release of past baggage, ego, and emotional weight.

Created in just 14 days, The Inner Red Carpet brought together artists, designers, and collaborators in an effort to transform one of the world’s most glamorous platforms into a conversation about vulnerability, healing, and authentic human connection
