At the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, Aishwarya Rai made sure her debut red carpet appearance was noteworthy. Love it or hate it, the appearance became a hot topic on the internet. The actor arrived wearing an undone ponytail and a silver hooded gown by Sophie Couture with a large black bow in front. Social media users, on the other hand, was unimpressed with Aishwarya’s appearance and compared her dress to aluminium foil.
Memes quickly spread over the internet when Aishwarya Rai appeared at the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny screening wearing the hooded silver gown. While some claimed it was modelled after the extraterrestrial Jaadu from the movie Koi… Mil Gaya, others claimed it was similar to a shawarma roll or “Swiggy instamart ice cream delivery”.
Aishwarya’s silver gown was posted alongside a photo of an ice-cream container. Another person commented, “Who wore it better?” with a photo of an individual carrying a silver sheet to shield himself from the rain. A collage of Aishwarya and Jaadu was also published on Twitter with the message, “Found Aishwarya’s inspiration.” “So happy to see Aishwarya Rai pay homage to shawarmas at Cannes,” said the tweet beside another collage of her holding a roll.
The specifics of Aishwarya’s dress were revealed on the Sophie Couture official Instagram account. The caption on the photo read, “Unveiling a mind-blowing creation from our Maison, paired with lightweight aluminium details, a signature corset, and crystals, from the Cannes Capsule Collection.” The star was continuously addressed by the photographers as she walked the red carpet. She is one of the most recognisable Indian faces on the global stage, particularly at Cannes.
