Thalapathy Vijay’s family grabbed attention on Friday as his wife Sangeetha Sornalingam and daughter Divya Saasha made a rare public appearance at Chennai’s Kamala Cinemas to support Jason Sanjay on the release of his directorial debut, Sigma. The appearance came as the much-awaited film opened in theatres on October 2, 2026.
Sangeetha and Divya were spotted arriving for an early screening of Sigma, marking a significant family moment for Jason Sanjay as he began his journey as a filmmaker. Jason, who is Vijay and Sangeetha’s son, has made his debut as a writer-director with the Sundeep Kishan-led action-adventure film.
Sangeetha and Divya Support Jason Sanjay on Sigma’s Release Day
Videos from outside Kamala Cinemas showed Sangeetha Sornalingam arriving at the theatre with her daughter Divya Saasha. The rare appearance immediately attracted attention from fans and photographers gathered outside the venue.
Sangeetha was seen smiling as she made her way into the theatre, while Divya accompanied her. Jason Sanjay was also seen with his mother and sister at the venue, making the screening an important family occasion for the young filmmaker.
The appearance was particularly notable because Sangeetha generally maintains a low public profile. Her presence at Sigma highlighted the family’s support for Jason as he took his first major step behind the camera.
A later video reportedly showed Sangeetha and Jason sharing an emotional hug after the screening, adding another memorable moment to the film’s opening day.
Who Is Jason Sanjay?
Jason Sanjay is the son of Tamil superstar-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay and Sangeetha Sornalingam. Rather than making his first film appearance as an actor, Jason has chosen filmmaking as his entry point into the industry.
With Sigma, Jason has taken on the responsibilities of writer and director. The film stars Sundeep Kishan in the lead role, alongside Faria Abdullah and a supporting cast that includes several familiar names from the South Indian film industry.
Jason’s directorial debut has been closely watched because of his family background, but he has repeatedly indicated that he wants the film to be discussed on its own merits rather than solely through his father’s celebrity status.
Jason Sanjay Wanted Sigma to Be About the Film, Not Vijay
Before the release of Sigma, Jason spoke about his father’s involvement in the film’s promotional campaign.
According to reports, Jason had said that Vijay would not be actively promoting Sigma. His reasoning was that he wanted audiences to focus on the movie, its cast and the filmmaking team rather than turning the promotional campaign into an extension of Vijay’s star power.
This approach has made Jason’s directorial debut an interesting moment in the Vijay family’s cinematic legacy. While his father has built a massive career as one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars, Jason is attempting to establish himself behind the camera.
Sangeetha’s Rare Public Appearance Draws Attention
Sangeetha Sornalingam has largely stayed away from the public spotlight, making her appearance at Sigma especially noticeable.
Her arrival alongside Divya Saasha became one of the talking points surrounding the film’s opening day. The mother-daughter duo attended the early show in Chennai to support Jason, turning the screening into a family occasion as well as a major professional milestone for him.
Divya Saasha, Vijay and Sangeetha’s daughter, also maintains a relatively private profile compared with her famous father. Her appearance alongside Sangeetha added further interest among Vijay fans.
What About Reports of Vijay and Sangeetha’s Relationship?
The family appearance also generated discussion because of reports surrounding Vijay and Sangeetha’s marriage.
Several reports in 2026 have discussed claims that the couple were living separately and later reported on legal proceedings involving their marriage. However, the details have been reported differently across publications, and neither Vijay nor Sangeetha has publicly confirmed every claim circulating online.
The Indian Express reported that Sangeetha withdrew a divorce petition on August 7, 2026, after appearing before the Chengalpattu Family Court through video conference. The report also noted that the couple married in 1999 and have two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha.
Because of the sensitive nature of these reports, it is important to distinguish documented court-related reporting from speculation circulating on social media.
The latest Sigma appearance itself showed Sangeetha supporting her son at an important professional milestone. It does not, by itself, establish anything about the private status of Vijay and Sangeetha’s relationship.
What Is Sigma About?
Sigma marks Jason Sanjay’s first feature as a writer-director. The film stars Sundeep Kishan as Guru, with Faria Abdullah as one of the principal cast members.
According to the film’s reported storyline, Guru is a struggling librarian who is trying to preserve his late mother’s ancestral library while facing financial difficulties. His circumstances take an unexpected turn when he becomes involved with a secret casino operating behind a theatre.
The story expands into an action-adventure involving a mysterious pen drive, a key and a hidden overseas fortune. Guru and his friends become caught in a dangerous situation involving multiple groups searching for the valuable information.
The film combines action, adventure, comedy and elements of a treasure hunt while following Guru’s attempts to protect his family’s legacy.
