Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Saif Ali Khan may finally share the screen, with the two acclaimed Indian actors reportedly in talks for an upcoming international film to be directed by filmmaker Ritesh Batra. The reported collaboration has generated considerable curiosity because Priyanka and Saif have never previously appeared together as lead actors.
According to a recent Filmfare report, the project is being developed as an international outing for Ritesh Batra, the filmmaker best known for movies including The Lunchbox and Photograph. However, the film remains at the discussion stage, and official details about its title, storyline, characters, production schedule and release date have not yet been announced.
Priyanka Chopra and Saif Ali Khan Could Team Up for the First Time
The biggest talking point surrounding the reported project is the possibility of seeing Priyanka Chopra and Saif Ali Khan together on screen.
Both actors have enjoyed long careers in Indian cinema, while Priyanka has also established herself in international entertainment. Despite their extensive filmographies, the two have never actually headlined a movie together.
Filmfare reports that the actors are currently in talks to headline Ritesh Batra’s next international film. If the collaboration moves forward, it would mark their first acting project together.
The potential pairing is particularly interesting because Priyanka and Saif have previously been linked to possible collaborations that never materialised.
Priyanka Chopra Had Previously Expressed Interest in Working With Saif
Interestingly, the possibility of Priyanka Chopra and Saif Ali Khan working together is not entirely new.
According to Filmfare, Priyanka had spoken positively about Saif as far back as 2012. She reportedly described him as an incredible actor and revealed that they had been expected to work together on two or three projects, but those collaborations did not happen, partly because of scheduling issues.
More than a decade later, the reported Ritesh Batra project could potentially give the actors another opportunity to collaborate.
At present, however, there is no official confirmation that the film has been formally greenlit or that either actor has signed a contract.
Ritesh Batra to Direct the International Project
The reported project is also notable because of its filmmaker.
Ritesh Batra gained international recognition with The Lunchbox, the acclaimed drama starring Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The filmmaker subsequently worked on projects connected to both Indian and international cinema.
His filmography includes The Sense of an Ending and Our Souls at Night, in addition to The Lunchbox and Photograph.
Filmfare reports that the new project would be another international film for Batra. If confirmed, it would also represent his return to feature filmmaking following Photograph, which was released in 2019 and starred Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Sanya Malhotra.
The combination of Batra’s storytelling style with Priyanka and Saif’s acting experience could make the project one to watch, although the actual creative direction of the film remains unknown.
What Is the Story of Priyanka Chopra and Saif Ali Khan’s New Film?
At present, the storyline of the reported Priyanka Chopra-Saif Ali Khan film has not been revealed.
There is also no confirmed information about the genre, setting, characters or whether the film will be primarily shot in India or overseas.
Reports currently describe it simply as an international project being developed by Ritesh Batra. Until the filmmaker, actors or production company officially announce the project, details circulating online should be treated as preliminary.
Priyanka Chopra’s International Career
Priyanka Chopra has become one of the most recognisable Indian actors working across both Indian and international entertainment.
After establishing herself as a major Bollywood star, she expanded her career internationally with the television series Quantico. She subsequently appeared in several international productions, including Baywatch, The Matrix Resurrections, Love Again and Heads of State.
Her international television work also includes Citadel, the action-thriller series created for Prime Video.
According to Filmfare, Priyanka’s recent work includes The Bluff, while her upcoming Indian slate includes S. S. Rajamouli’s Varanasi, which is scheduled for April 2027. The film is expected to mark an important return to Indian cinema for the actor as well as her first Telugu-language project.
The reported Ritesh Batra project would therefore potentially add another international production to her growing body of work.
Saif Ali Khan’s Current Projects
Saif Ali Khan has also maintained a diverse career spanning mainstream Hindi cinema, experimental projects and international productions.
Over the years, he has appeared in movies across genres, from romantic dramas and comedies to crime stories and period films.
According to Filmfare, Saif was most recently seen in Priyadarshan’s Haiwaan. He is also attached to Rahul Dholakia’s Hum Hindustani, a period drama centred on the making of India’s first democratic election.
A collaboration with Ritesh Batra would give Saif another opportunity to explore an internationally oriented story.
Why the Reported Collaboration Is Generating Buzz
There are several reasons why the reported film has attracted attention.
First, it could bring together Priyanka Chopra and Saif Ali Khan for the first time.

Third, Ritesh Batra’s involvement adds another interesting dimension because of his experience working with stories that have travelled beyond a single film industry.
The project therefore connects three established names from Indian cinema who have followed different professional paths.
