Ganpati celebrations at Antilia are always a grand affair, but this time, it was Nita Ambani’s jewellery that had everyone looking twice. As the Ambani family welcomed Lord Ganesha home, Nita Ambani made a striking appearance in a stunning orange-and-pink ombre silk sari, paired with a statement gold necklace that was impossible to miss.
The Reliance Industries chairperson completed her festive look with a matching orange potli featuring intricate golden brocade work. But the real showstopper was the dramatic neckpiece she wore.
The elaborate creation, known as Amrapali Bharatam, has been crafted by Amrapali Jewels and brings together antique and vintage Indian jewellery sourced from different parts of the country. The result is a rather unusual yet fascinating piece that looks more like a miniature jewellery museum than a conventional necklace.
According to Amrapali Jewels, as many as 14 skilled karigars worked on the piece. A traditional Kerala necklace forms its centre, while elements inspired by South Indian jewellery, including jhoomars, naths, a passa, chandbalis, billas and statement earrings, have been incorporated into the design.
What makes the necklace particularly eye-catching is that it brings together jewellery traditionally worn on different parts of the body. Pieces originally designed as earrings, nose ornaments, necklaces and even hair accessories have been transformed into one dramatic statement piece.
Instead of sticking to a perfectly symmetrical pattern, the necklace embraces an intentionally eclectic arrangement. Every individual ornament gets its moment to shine, while the overall design comes together as one elaborate work of art.
And honestly, that is exactly the kind of jewellery moment you would expect at an Ambani celebration. While the guest list and grand festivities grabbed plenty of attention, Nita Ambani’s larger-than-life neckpiece quietly became one of the biggest fashion talking points from the evening.
