Actor-dancer Nora Fatehi has finally addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding the song “Sarke Chunar” from the upcoming film KD – The Devil, following widespread backlash over its allegedly explicit lyrics.
Taking to Instagram, Nora shared a video statement clarifying her stance and distancing herself from the creative decisions behind the Hindi version of the song. She stated that she was not aware of the Hindi lyrics and emphasized that no permission was taken from her end regarding the final version of the track.
In her message, Nora acknowledged the criticism and said, “Me and my team will be more careful in the future, however, I had no idea about the Hindi song.” She also expressed gratitude for the feedback, indicating that the concerns raised by audiences have been taken seriously.
Amid the controversy, the song has now been removed from official platforms, including YouTube, after facing strong reactions across social media.
The issue has also drawn a response from lyricist Raqueeb Alam, who distanced himself from the song’s content. He clarified that the lyrics were originally written in Kannada by the film’s director, Prem, and that he was only asked to translate them into Hindi.
Speaking about the situation, Alam revealed that he had initially refused to work on the track. “I had said such songs won’t work and would be censored too. But I was told to do a literal translation of the Kannada version to match the song’s meter,” he explained.
Sarke Chunar had been widely circulated online before being taken down, further fueling the debate around content standards and creative accountability in multilingual film projects.
KD – The Devil, starring Sanjay Dutt, is a Kannada film set to release in multiple languages on April 30. While the film itself remains on track for release, the controversy around the song has sparked conversations about content approval processes and artist involvement in dubbed versions.
