Yash Raj Films (YRF) recently expressed their gratitude to the judiciary after the Gujarat High Court lifted an interim stay on the release of ‘Maharaj,’ marking the debut of Bollywood star Aamir Khan’s son, Junaid. This period drama, set in pre-independent India, is based on the Maharaj Libel Case of 1862.
The court’s decision came after a petition from members of the Vaishnav Pushtimarg sect claimed the film hurt religious sentiments. However, after reviewing the movie, the court found nothing objectionable or derogatory, clearing the way for its release on Netflix.
In a heartfelt statement on their official social media, YRF praised Karsandas Mulji, the social reformer at the center of the story. “We are grateful to our judiciary for allowing the release of Maharaj, a film that celebrates one of India’s most significant social reformers, Karsandas Mulji,” the studio shared.
The statement continued, “Karsandas, a hero and a devout Vaishnav, stood for righteousness, protected women, and safeguarded his community and faith. Maharaj is a tribute to his indomitable fighting spirit and his courage to stand on the right side of history.”
Known for producing acclaimed films like ‘Veer Zaara,’ ‘Pathaan,’ ‘Ek Tha Tiger,’ ‘Chak De! India,’ and ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge,’ YRF emphasized that they have always upheld the country’s values and reputation in their cinematic works.
