    Kamal Haasan supports protesting wrestlers

Very few celebrities have come out in support of Indian wrestlers, who have been protesting against BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been accused of sexually harassing women wrestlers. Tamil actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan is among the few celebrities who has supported the wrestlers. As Tuesday marked one month of the protest, the actor took to Twitter to extend his support.
He wrote, “Today marks 1 month of protests by athletes of the wrestling fraternity. Instead of fighting for national glory, we have forced them to fight for personal safety. Fellow Indians, who deserves our attention, our national sporting icons or a politician with an extensive criminal history? #IStandWithMyChampions.”
Many fans on Twitter supported Kamal’s statement, and the tweet has been widely shared on the micro-blogging site. “More power to them it’s such a shame no action has happened we are with you,” a user wrote.

So far, Pooja Bhatt, Swara Bhaskar, Sonu Sood, and Vidyut Jammwal are among the few celebrities who have come out in solidarity with the wrestlers when even sports icons like Sourav Ganguly have chosen to not comment on the issue.
Earlier, Kamal Haasan, who is also the founder of the centrist political party Makkal Needhi Maiam, walked along with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during his Bharat Jodo Yatra.
On the work front, Kamal Haasan is currently shooting Indian 2, directed by Shankar. The film is a sequel to the 1996 film, Indian, which is about an ageing vigilante, who kills corrupt government officers including his son.
