Neeraj Chopra, added another feather to his cap on Monday (May 22) by becoming the world’s number one men’s javelin thrower. The Olympic champion displaced World Champion Anderson Peters from the position to earn a new career high.
Neeraj is the first Indian men’s javelin thrower in history to achieve this remarkable feat. Neeraj’s rise to the top spot in the world ranking comes on the back of a brilliant start to the 2023 season that saw him win the Doha Diamond League Event with a stunning throw of 88.63m.

Neeraj created history in Tokyo with what was India’s first ever medal in track and field since independence. Prior to the Olympics, Neeraj had won the gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth and Asian Games.
Following his Olympics triumph, Neeraj had a brilliant 2022 season that saw him win his first ever World Championship medal by taking home silver in Eugene. He could not defend his Commonwealth title due to an injury but went on to win the Diamond League and become the first Indian in history to do so.
