Vidya Balan recalls walking away from ‘super critical, unsupportive’ person who body-shamed her

The actor Vidya Balan discussed a time when someone close to her let her down and advised her to “move away” from such a circumstance. Vidya was sure to prove that this individual isn’t a relative even though she declined to give their name.
In an interview, Vidya Balan was questioned about a previous remark she had made to this effect and about how “difficult” it had been for her to have a close friend make fun of her appearance. Yet Vidya has not just spoken publicly about accepting herself since then; she has also advanced professionally.
She said, “It’s always the closest people who hurt you the most, and all I’ll say is that I’m not referring to family here. It’s irrelevant who the person is at this point. But suffice to say that when someone matters a lot to you, and when they are super critical when they body-shame you, when they are just not supportive, it’s not nice. And the only thing for you to do at that point is to walk away. I did, and I’m so glad I did. It’s not any sort of judgement on that person, but I… I think better things were in store for me.”
Vidya is married to film producer Siddharth Roy Kapur, and in the same interview, she looked back on their love story. She said that she credits Karan Johar for playing Cupid in their lives, and recalled how Karan conspired to bring them together at a party that he had thrown. Vidya’s last film was the acclaimed drama Jalsa, in which she starred alongside Shefali Shah. She will soon be seen in the mystery film Neeyat, and in Lovers.
