SS Rajamouli wins Best Director for RRR at New York Film Critics Circle

Less than a year has passed since the premiere of SS Rajamouli’s historical drama RRR, yet the buzz surrounding the movie is still enormous. SS Rajamouli, who has already won a number of prestigious prizes, has now added a new one to his collection after being recognised as Best Director at the 2022 New York Film Critics Circle Awards. In a recent video that has gone viral, the filmmaker is shown accepting the prize as the crowd claps heartily for him.
Rajamouli thanked the jury and the crowd for their support of his movie after accepting the prize. “You have brought a modest film from the south of India to the attention of many people.” He also remembered the looks on the audience members’ faces when his movie was first released. “Like what the hell we just saw, it was pure bliss of wonder. I want my audiences to feel that, he said. The director also expressed gratitude to his family for their unwavering support.
SS Rajamouli, Ram Charan, and Jr. NTR will all be present at the January 11 Golden Globe ceremony in Los Angeles. RRR is up for Best Foreign Film, but Naatu Naatu, the song from the movie, is up for Best Original Song. RRR will also receive a special screening on January 9 as a part of the Beyond Fest in the US. There will also be SS Rajamouli, Jr. NTR, Ram Charan, and composer MM Keeravani.
RRR was included in a campaign for 14 categories even though it wasn’t India’s official Oscars 2023 submission. In the Best Song category, Natu Natu has been shortlisted. Ram Charan and Jr. NTR play two revolutionaries in the March 2022 film RRR, which tells the story of two revolutionaries in pre-Independent India. Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt both had lengthy cameo appearances in the movie.
