    Overall Rating : 4/5

Cast : Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Tiger Shroff, Arjun Kapoor, Jackie Shroff

    Director : Rohit Shetty

Plot : Singham Again is the fifth installment of Shetty’s Cop Universe franchise and a direct sequel to Singham Returns. In the third chapter of the Singham series, the fearless officer Bajirao Singham, along with his courageous team, sets out on a high-stakes cross-border mission to save his cherished wife, Avni Singham, who has been taken by a powerful foe. Staying true to its legacy of never disappointing its audience—never has, never will—this film promises an intense showdown between justice and malice.

Ajay Devgn as Bajirao Singham once again plays a straight talking, honest and brave cop in director Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again. This time around, the actor is portrayed as the modern day Ram and Kareena Kapoor Khan who plays his wife Avni, is Seeta who gets abducted by the film’s antagonist, Danger Lanka, essayed by Arjun Kapoor. While in the previous films of the franchise, Singham dealt with local mafia and corrupt godmen, in this film, Singham locks horns with Omar Hafeez. This is the Lashkar terrorist who could not be nailed during the last mission which was fronted by Surya played by Akshay Kumar. This encounter also makes Singham, Danger Lanka’s biggest enemy.

The story of Ramayana forms the backbone of Singham Again. Rohit Shetty with able support from his band of writers skillfully draws parallels between the epic and the characters that he brings to life in the film. With seven star faces sharing screen space, it might have turned out to be a crowded affair but not when an able director like Rohit Shetty is at the helm of affairs.

He has a keen eye when it comes to spotting every actor’s core strength and then using it to make the film’s story authentic. While Ajay Devgn’s calm demeanour hides inherent strength, Tiger Shroff’s athleticism lends itself to some breathtaking action choreography. Meanwhile, Arjun Kapoor in a fresh new avatar as the film’s antagonist, equivalent to Ramayana’s Raavan holds his own and mouths some key dialogues effortlessly. Ranveer Singh in an extended cameo brings in the lighter moments and also brings the house down with his magnetic screen presence. Deepika Padukone who is introduced as Lady Singham in the cop universe plays a key role and Kareena Kapoor Khan being a seasoned actress is seamless in her portrayal as the brave wife of an upright cop.

Ravi Basrur’s background score adds a whole new dimension to the film’s narrative as each character’s dramatic moments are set to tune anew. Having created magic with films like KGF and Salaar, the composer keeps the narrative pacy and builds momentum with his commendable score. With not a single song in the film, the story moves at breakneck speed keeping the viewers engaged.

While the film’s story hinges on the good vs evil premise, the novelty comes from Rohit Shetty’s skilful direction wherein he creates a world that might seem improbable otherwise but as a big screen experience is a complete entertainer. With Singham Again, the director not only holds on to his penchant for making cars fly high but also takes the cop universe narrative many notches higher. Adapting one of the country’s most loved epics was a tall task. Films in the past that have aimed to relive the story have often missed the mark. However, Singham Again hits bull’s eye with not just the narration of the epic saga but also makes it relevant for the younger generation by making it accessible in a language that is current and contemporary.
